Looking for something fun to do with your friends and family this Spring? The Grants Pass Downs Oregon’s premier racing facility located at the Josephine County Fairgrounds opens May 9th.
Following the permanent closure of Portland Meadows in 2019, Grants Pass Downs has become the epicenter of Oregon racing, securing a 99-year lease agreement with the Josephine County Fairgrounds. Under the leadership of entrepreneur and Grants Pass native Travis Boersma, Grants Pass Downs has made substantial upgrades throughout the 64-acre facility located west of downtown Grants Pass.
“It’s a great sport that we have,” says Boersma. “I think there’s a way to do it in a classy way, and I have a straightforward plan — show some T.L.C. to the horses and the people who care for them. When people love on each other, good things happen.”
Grants Pass Downs has played host to many of the top-ranking Thoroughbred and quarter horse athletes in the Pacific Northwest. Our racetrack family includes generations of local horsemen who call Grants Pass Downs home, year after year. Our jockey colony continues to grow and includes a sizable contingent of regular female riders.
